Sharepoint SAP Sales Variant Configurator
Most companies do have requirements in Engineering and Manufacturing regarding configurable products in different areas. They are almost looking for a solution to manage the big amount of combinations and variances to offer unique products to their customers
SAP has with its modules Enterprise Ressource Planning, Product Lifecycle Management and Customer Relationship Management many features that are integrated between the modules to maintain dependencies and rules for the configurable materials.
The requirement regarding the Duet Variant Configurator was the idea to offer a simple and easy to use front end within Sharepoint to configure the individual products. One of the benefits is that it is easy to use and to maintain and it is available on mobilde devices. The direct connection to SAP using SAP Gateway technology (DUET Enterprise) allows and guarantees a easy to use front-end with less training effort.
Solution
The implemented solution uses SAP PLM and the product master data as basis and data backend. This includes the material master, configuration profiles, classes, characteristics, dependencies. Images for the different variants can be maintained in the SAP document management system or in the Sharepoint as a image list.
All SAP standard objects have been used and connected to Microsoft Sharepoint. After configuring a sales order will be created in the SAP system for example. The sales order can be used for other processes in the SAP system. It can also be linkes to a maintenance order or any other SAP business object.

SAP PLM offers a lot of features to model and manage product variants. SAP ERP supports modelling of variants and managing them with intelligence tools.
The solution connects the ERP-Modules SD, MM and PP very efficient and can be implemented at low costs.
